Thank You
For Commissioning
A Portrait

Thank you for commissioning a Portrait with warm and gentle hues. I can now trade emails with you to explore your wishes for the portrait, or personally visit you. Then the creative process of drawing a face life size begins.

I am happy to use your own favorite photos as references for the portrait. Having been a professional photographer, I am prepared to take reference photos for you as well. Around the Sarasota County area in Florida, I can visit your home and take excellent photos for you without any additional fee. Beyond that region, travel expenses can apply. Contact me for a photo session at your home.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to ask any questions or to initiate a portrait commission. All transactions can take place online, by mail or in person.

The finished artwork is soon ready for your review. This takes place at a private internet address created specifically for only you. Once you have approved the work, you'll complete the purchase securely at the private internet site, or by mailing a check for the balance due.

Important Suggestions
for Reference Photos

In order to avoid focal distortion in the image: Step back and away from the poser, then zoom in with the camera lens. Use an Optical Zoom 6X, or take photos with a moderate (90mm to 135mm) telephoto lens.

Include just the head generally facing you and including the shoulders down to mid chest.

Take them with flash, indoors in a well lighted room.

Make them sharp, clear and bright.

Ask the poser to face the camera. The head can be turned slightly to the side. Suggest that they look at the camera lens and imagine something they like a lot. Have fun with them.

A profile is easy to take. Just remember to ask the poser to look straight ahead in order for the eye to be in an appropriate position.

Many various facial expressions - from playful to serious - are all equally acceptable for a portrait, and it depends only on your individual taste. Praise the poser for a smile. Joke if you want them to laugh. Make them comfortable for a calm look. Arrive unnoticed for a candid gem.

Sending Your Photos

Send Many Photos

One special photo of someone special is the focus of my work, but I can learn a lot by studying several or many photos of that one person.

It can be done but it is not necessary to photograph two people together because I can combine images in a drawing from separate photos.

I also supply other items of interest such as butterflies, birds or flowers - any item of interest from sports to musical instruments to tropical fish.

Send Your Photos by Mail

You can mail photos. Copy digital files to a CD disc. Or mail prints. I will return prints. Mail prints or CDs to this address:

Publish Your Photos

It is possible to publish your reference photos to a link on your own online home page (if it holds high resolution files), and I can gather them there.
