Procedures

Since the 1800's, artists have referred to photographs when making portraits. It is too uncomfortable to expect portrait posers, and impossible for children, to be still for hours while the artist studies them.

My portraits are created by referring to photos. When you initiate work on a portrait, I will explore your wishes for the portrait with you. Click here for some helpful suggestions.

I am happy to use your own favorite photos as references for the portrait. Having been a professional photographer, I am prepared to take reference photos for you as well. Around the Sarasota County area in Florida, I can visit your home and take excellent photos for you without any additional fee. Beyond that region, travel expenses can apply. Contact me for a photo session at your home.

Insured shipping via UPS is included anywhere in the continental USA.
Sales tax is additional in Florida.
When applicable, travel expenses are discussed.

A life size portrait of the face, or head and shoulders, is drawn with lightfast, oil-based pencil and are on 100% cotton. Completed portraits are presented with a three inch mat border and with a backing, each of museum conservation quality. The image is under light weight, shatterproof acrylic, and in a fine wood frame. The portrait fee includes a frame. The frame protects the portrait in transit, and it arrives ready to display.

I will trade emails with you exploring your wishes for the portrait, the hues that you desire, and then the artwork commences.

You'll soon receive a private internet address to preview, approve and purchase the portrait. You'll then receive the completed portrait in a 16 x 21 inch frame (included in the fee). (The over-all size is 18 1/8 x 23 1/8 inches.) The frame protects the portrait in transit. The portrait arrives ready to display. See Frame

A $350.00 nonrefundable deposit
$900.00 balance due upon completion and approval
Total Portrait Fee including Frame $1,250.00

I will trade emails with you exploring your wishes for the portrait, the hues and an item of interest such as a butterfly, and then the artwork commences.

You'll soon receive a private internet address to preview, approve and purchase the portrait. You'll then receive the completed portrait in a 20 x 27 inch frame (included in the fee). (The over-all size is 22 1/8 x 29 1/8 inches.) The frame protects the portrait in transit. The portrait arrives ready to display. See Frame

I will trade emails with you exploring your wishes for the portrait, the hues and two friends, two siblings or a parent with a child, and then the artwork commences.

Be Assured:

If you are not happy with your portrait when you receive it, simply return the undamaged portrait and frame to me and I will fully refund the balance due portion of your fee.

The contents of the UPS package is insured. If your portrait arrives damaged, please notify me so that I can initiate an insurance claim with UPS.
